A nicely carved smaller piece of green and black spotted jade is possibly of South American origin.

Jade carving, open-circle shaped with an outstanding dorsal fin at mid-length which balances this piece nicely for suspended exhibition.  The white-flecked appearance known as calcification helps to authenticate the age of this piece.  Calcium appears on the hard surface of many old carvings and is believed to take a thousand or more years to form relative to the surrounding environment.  If the surrounding environment happens to be a relative who is a three year oLd little boy who throws a large heavy piece like this up in the air to see if it can fly -we find out that it happens to break into about five pieces (yes, even hard stone such as Jade can break -theory tested and proven ;) and most reluctantly I must say :(
